Narrative Description of Indicator
The least restrictive environment (LRE) data for this APR are based on Maryland’s 618 annual child count collected the last Friday in October 2021 and reported in the Maryland Early Intervention/Special Education Services Census Data and Related Tables document. The MSDE has made progress in all Indicator 5 subsets and met targets on each. Each subset of the indicator has demonstrated growth over time and maintains a positive trend. The State revised its baseline for Indicator 5 in FFY 2020 The Indicator 5 subsets are 5A, 5B, and 5C:5A - Percent of children with IEPs, aged 6 through 21, served inside the regular class 80% or more of the day. 5B - Percent of children with IEPs, aged 6 through 21, served inside the regular class less than 40% of the day.5C - Percent of children with IEPs, aged 6 through 21, served in separate schools, residential placements, or homebound or hospital placements.

View Indicator 5A - During the school year 2022 - 2023, 71.95% of students received services inside regular education 80% or more of the day. This data represents continued progress. These data reflect an increase from the FFY 2021-2022 data of 71.75%. View Indicator 5B - During the school year 2022 - 2023, 11.34% of students received services inside regular education less than 40% of the day, which is a decrease from the result obtained in 2021-2022 of 11.50%. View Indicator 5C - During the school year 2022 – 2023, 5.89% of the state's students with disabilities received services in separate schools, which reflects a decrease from the result obtained in 2021-2022 of 6.24%.
